Fighting
Quotes - Let us never fear
“My
father was a Catholic, a coal miner in the Big Pit. My mother a Jew. A
charwoman, when she could find the work. They didn’t fit in Wales. Nor in the
U.K., either. They didn’t fit with each other all that well, for that matter.
They fought every day for as long as I can remember and loved each other more
than anyone I’ve ever known. At least they did right up till a night when he
looked right and not left at a train crossing in Chepstow and ended up half a
mile from where he’d started, dead as the Ghost. Looking for a job, he was.
Turned out he didn’t need one.”

“If
this is truly the time that will decide, we have no business refusing people
who feel the way we do. No right to decide that they must huddle in their homes
waiting to see if they are still slaves or not when the summer ends.”
―
Guy Gavriel Kay, Tigana
“She
ran to Alaric, to fight by his side.”

“He
that can milk the cow and plough the furrow before talking wisdom with the Lord
is indeed a man of special gifts”
―
Robert Reid, The Empress:
“Next
morning, while her children were still asleep in their tent, Evie got up early.
The acorn she had planted the day before had sprung to life and was nearly ten
feet high. Sitting on the fallen log where the forest boy had sat thirty years
earlier, she listened. There was no dancing partner. Maybe she was now too old,
but the oak trees did sing for her.”
―
Robert Reid, The Empress:
“If
he sent her on her way, her mission would have been a failure. He looked at her
long legs. He shook her hand, holding it a second too long.”

lotsa bad apples out there. It ain’t you, it’s the bushel of fruit available
for the pickin’ that’s the problem.”

“Pletcher
went out to Ethyl, who was still sitting in the weather, water droplets on her
dense coat blinking in the hazy light like sea sparkle in the night off
Bimini.”

“Maeve
glanced around at the tables and watched the couples sitting close to each
other laughing, holding hands, or staring into each other’s eyes. She felt that
familiar ache thinking of Evan, missing him, and the emptiness it caused at
times like this when she was alone.”

“Lev
was a man who appreciated the finer things in life. To him, Maeve was one of
them.”

“I
show her my palms, surrendering before the fight has even begun. "You
don't really want this and neither do I. Especially because I wouldn't want to
mess up that pretty face of yours, darling."
She
all but rolls her eyes at me. "That's funny because I won't hesitate to
mess up your pretty face."
I
smirk. "I knew you thought I was pretty."
At
that, she throws another punch at my face that I easily evade. We continue
circling each other, slowly. Damp hair clings to my forehead and I comb my
fingers through it, pushing it off my sticky skin.
"You
do know that I have eight powers at my disposal right now and any one of them
could drop you." I grin as I say it, watching her eyes narrow.
"I
don't want to fight your power-I want to fight you. Just you." Her
piercing gaze never leaves mine as she says it, even as the other Elites turn
their attention toward us, finding this fight far more interesting than their
training.
"So,
you just want me? No powers?"
"Yes,
I just want you," she breathes, annoyed with me.
My
mouth twists into a crooked grin. "I knew you wanted me, Gray.”

us never fear. The stars in their courses fight against the enemies of our
souls. Often when we march to the conflict, we find no army to contend with.”

“Debates,
edicts, threats and counterthreats- the customary swordplay of a city under
siege. Do we fight? Do we run?
Earnest
and admirable, yet- and you must pardon the analogy- these discussions are to
the outcome what water splashing is to drowning: They only make the whole thing
go faster.”
―
Justin Cronin, The City of Mirrors
“The
most difficult part of fighting any battle is the acknowledgement of its
existence.”

“Waffle
House is not harnessing their true economic potential. Sure, they make and sell
food, but why are they not also in the entertainment industry? They should sell
tickets to the fights that happen at their venue, and I'm sure a town like
Harrison would embrace the spectacle.”
―
Jarod Kintz, A Memoir of Memories and Memes
“The
gathering of knowledge in the face of our certain doom kept us sane and gave us
the drive to go on, step after step, fight after fight.”
